Dallas Cowboys vs Houston Texans Recap

The Dallas Cowboys got their first win of the season by getting a big victory at previously unbeaten Houston. Dallas earned bragging rights by winning the game between the in-state rivals. More importantly, they gained momentum heading in to the bye week.

After two ugly outings against Washington and Chicago, questions surrounding the Dallas offense were all over the media. However, they responded this time. Tony Romo completed 23 of 30 passes for 284 yards and two touchdowns. Much maligned receiver Roy Williams caught both of those. He had arguably his best game as a Cowboy, catching five passes total for 117 yards. Dallas still couldn’t manage much of a running attack, but did get a key touchdown from Marion Barber.

The Dallas defense managed to keep the high power Houston attack in check for the most part. Arian Foster did get 106 yards on 17 carries, but was kept out of the end zone. Meanwhile Matt Schaub struggled, completing 23 of 32 passes for 241 yards and one touchdown. Schaub also had two interceptions. The Cowboys forced three turnovers after forcing none in their first two games. Kevin Walter caught a late touchdown pass from Schaub for the only Houston touchdown, but the game was well in hand at that point.

Dallas heads in to their bye week with a new sense of purpose. They are only one game behind in the NFC East. They face the Titans at home after the bye week before traveling to Minnesota, the team that routed them in the playoffs last season. However, Minnesota is struggling this season. After that Dallas plays the Giants and Jaguars at home. The schedule sets up nicely for Dallas to make a move up the standings.

Meanwhile, Houston is still a good team with a strong chance at reaching the playoffs for the first time. This loss no doubt stings after opening the season with two huge wins, but Houston won’t go anywhere. Houston visits Oakland before hosting the Giants and Chiefs. There is a high chance they can go to the bye week at 5-1. Houston will need to improve their passing defense, which is the worst in the league. But the Texans are fully capable of improving on defense. There will be better days for Schaub and the offense as well.
